Although it is not a social landlord, the Council is required have an approved Housing Allocation Policy which includes eligibility criteria and priorities for the allocation of social housing in the borough by Registered Providers (RPs). RPs must have regard to this when allocating their homes. When the Council makes a ‘nomination’, or a referral, to a RP this is classed as an allocation under housing law.
The Council’s Housing Allocations Policy was last reviewed in 2015. The updated Policy will take account of changes in local housing needs and the housing market. It will also reflect new legislation and national policy guidance.
