Motions on Notice

Minutes:

(a)         Councillor A J Eade proposed the following Motion:

 

“Despite undertakings to the contrary, we note with grave disappointment this council’s failure to secure state of the art health provision for the Borough of Telford & Wrekin.”

 

The Motion was seconded by Councillor N A Dugmore.

 

Councillor P Watling then moved an amendment, with additional words shown in bold and underlined and removed words shown with a strikethrough.

 

Despite undertakings to the contrary over the past 13 years, we note with grave disappointment the this Council’s failure to secure commitment from the Government, Prime Ministers and MP’s to state of the art health provision for the Borough of Telford and Wrekin and resolve:-

 

A)   To continue to lobby the current Prime Minister and current Health Secretary to reverse the decision by then Health Secretary Matthew Hancock to downgrade hospitals service.

B)   To call for more fairer funding for GP’s, pharmacists, dentists so that we can have a health care system all our residents can rely on.

C)   To praise our NHS staff who continue to work to offer the best possible service whilst dealing with the continued underfunding.

 

The amendment was seconded by Councillor A D McClements.

(b)          Councillor T J Nelson proposed the following Motion:

 

“This Council re-states its commitment to 35% affordable homes.”

 

The Motion was seconded by Councillor N A Dugmore.

 

Councillor R A Overton then moved an amendment, with additional words shown in bold and underlined and removed words shown with a strikethrough.

 

This Council re-states its commitment to 35% affordable homes where such a target can be agreed through the current government national policy framework. The council notes that 35% is the target for Newport and rural areas within the existing local plan which is currently subject to review and public consultation. The council notes that 3,473 affordable have been built across the whole borough from 2011-2022 which equates to over 3 in 10 homes built in that period.  

 

This Council agrees to continue to deliver affordable homes through every available option, including developer contribution, seek more Homes England grant and through direct delivery from Nuplace and Telford and Wrekin homes. This council resolves to continue to work with Registered Social Landlords in the delivery of further homes.

 

The amendment was seconded by Councillor L D Carter.

 

At the end of the debate regarding the amendment, a vote was taken and it was:-

(c)          Councillor A J Eade proposed the following Motion:

 

“This council commits to strengthen and expand the Green Guarantee Scheme.”

 

The Motion was seconded by Councillor T J Nelson.

 

Councillor C Healy then moved an amendment, with additional words shown in bold and underlined and removed words shown with a strikethrough.

 

This council is committed to protecting and investing in our green spaces. Since 2011 the council has declared 13 Local Nature Reserves with 5 more in the process of being declared, and we have created the Green Guarantee scheme which protects over 300 green spaces. In addition, in the last four years the council has invested £3.75 million into our open spaces and play areas. In line with the manifesto pledge of this administration, this council commits to strengthen and expand its protection of green spaces through the Green Guarantee Scheme, Local Nature Reserve designations, enhancing the Green Network and a new Green Pledge designation for third party land.

 

The amendment was seconded by Councillor O Vickers.

 

At the end of the debate regarding the amendment, a vote was taken and it was:-
