The Council is asked to admit as Honorary Aldermen of the Borough, the following individuals, being people of distinction and being considered to have rendered eminent service to the Borough of Telford and Wrekin.

Mr Alan Mackenzie

The Lord Sahota

Mr Charles Smith

Mr Malcolm Smith BEM

Section 249 of the Local Government Act, 1972 provides that a Council may pass a resolution to admit an honorary alderman providing that not less than two-thirds of Members voting thereon at a meeting of the Council specifically convened for this purpose vote in support.

RECOMMENDED – that the nominated individuals be admitted as Honorary Aldermen of the Borough of Telford and Wrekin.

This special meeting of the Council had been convened for the purpose of presenting Honorary Alderman of the Borough to the following former Councillors

Mrs Veronica Fletcher
Mr Alan Mackenzie
The Lord Sahota
Mr Charles Smith
Mr Malcolm Smith BEM

who had collectively given over 150 years of eminent service to the Borough and the community.

The Honorary Aldeman of the Borough nominees were proposed by Councill S Davies, seconded by Councillor A J Eade and supported by Councillor W L Tomlinson.

Upon being put to the vote, it was:

RESOLVED – that Ms Raemonde Evans, Mrs Veronica Fletcher, Mr Alan Mackenzie, The Lord Sahota, Mr Charles Smith and Mr Malcolm Smith BEM be admitted as Honorary Aldermen of the Borough of Telford and Wrekin.
