Honorary Freedom of the Borough

The Council is being asked to admit Garrison Sergeant Major Andrew ‘Vern’ Stokes OBE MVO DL to be an Honorary Freeman of the Borough in recognition of having rendered eminent service to the people of Telford and Wrekin. Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that a Council may pass a resolution to admit an honorary freeman providing that not less than two-thirds of Members voting thereon at a meeting of the Council specifically convened for this purpose vote in support.

 

RECOMMENDED – that Garrison Sergeant Major Andrew ‘Vern’ Stokes OBE MVO DL be admitted as an Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Telford and Wrekin.

This special meeting of the Council had been convened for the purpose of seeking Council’s approval to admit Garrison Sergeant Major Andrew ‘Vern’ Stokes OBE MVO DL as an Honorary Freeman of the Borough in recognition of having rendered eminent service to the people of Telford and Wrekin through his esteemed military career.

 

Council may pass a resolution to admit an honorary freeman provided that not less than two-thirds of Members present and voting thereon at a meeting of the Council specifically convened for this purpose, voted in support of the admission.

 

The admission of Garrison Sergeant Major Andrew ‘Vern’ Stokes OBE MVO DL was proposed by Councillor L D Carter, seconded by Councillor R A Overton and 

 

Upon being put to the vote, it was:

 

RESOLVED – that Garrison Sergeant Major Andrew ‘Vern’ Stokes OBE MVO DL be admitted as Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Telford and Wrekin.
